217.1 217.2 217.3 218.0 200-14 The CONTRACTOR shall take all necessary precautions for the safety of, and will provide the necess~ry protection to prevent damage7 injury or loss to: (1) all employees on the Work and other persons who may be affected thereby (2) all the Work and all materials or equipment to be incorporated, whether in storage on or off the site, and (3) other property at the site or adjacent thereto, including trees, shrubs, lawns, walks, pavements, roadways, structures and utilities not designated for removal, relocation or replacement in the course of construction. ' The CONTRACTOR shall comply with all applicable safety and building laws and codes of federal, state, municipal and other governmental bodies for the safety of persons or property or ,to prot.ect them from damage, injury or loss. He will erect and maintain, as required by the conditions and progress of the Work, all necessary safeguards for their safety and protection, including posting danger signs an~ other warnings against hazards, promulgating safety regulations and notifying owners of adjacent utilities. When the use or storage of ~xplosives or other hazardous materials is necessary for the prosecution of the Work, he will exercise the utmost care and will carry on such aotivities under the supervision of licensed specially qualified personnel. Atl damage, injury or loss to any such property caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or'in part, by the CONTRACTOR, any Sub- contractor or anyone directly or indireotly employed ,by any of them or anyone for whose acts any of them'may be liaPle, will be remedied by the CONTRACTOR. In emergencies affecting the safety of persons or the Work or property at the site or adjacent thereto, the CONTRACTOR, without special instruction ,or authorization from the ENGINEER or OWNER, is obligated to act, at his discretion, to prevent threatened damage, injury or loss. He will give the ENGINEER prompt written'notice of any significant changes in the Work or deviations from the Contract Documents caused thereby, and a Change Order may thereupon be issued covering the changes in the Work or deviations involved. If the CONTRACTOR believes that addit~onal work done' by him in an emergency which arose from causes beyond his control entitles him to an increase in the Contract Price or an extension of the contract Time, he may make a claim theref~re as provided in Section 235.0 and 236.0. . , ,..~......
