7. Imagine Rosevii e 2025 Steering Committee Broadcast Highlights <br />Section one of the Imagine Roseville 2025 report was adapted by the Roseville City Council on <br />Thursday March 29th. At that meeting the steering committee made a presentation of the <br />report. There has been interest on the part of the commission to show a DVD of the portion of <br />the video broadcast that directly relates to the Open Space and Recreation section. It is the <br />plan to replay that particular section at the meeting. <br />Requested Commission Action: View video Broadcast of the Steering Committee Report. <br />ai m�`:"M <br />N11111012=2— <br />Below, in no particular order are a few updates involving Parks and Recreation, <br />Parks and Recreation Staff Trainin <br />Parks and Recreation Staff recently attended the League of Minnesota Cities <br />Safety and Loss Control Workshop. Some of the topics included Service <br />Contracts- Looking Out for your City, Zoning Decisions, Data Practices, and <br />Personnel Policies. There were also lots of handouts on safety related <br />information. <br />Recreation Supervisors Roxann Maxey and Eric Boettcher attended a seminar <br />by Richard Louv on getting kids to spend more time outdoors. There is a need for <br />kids to have free time outdoors to encourage creative play. Louv emphasized <br />that parks and other public areas may actually be as safe for kids as they were <br />2030 years ago but that there is a lot more media coverage and publicity than <br />there used to be. <br />Parks and Recreation Intern On Board <br />• A new intern has started working in Parks and Recreation — Mikka Rose from <br />Winona State University. Some of the areas Mikka will be involved with include <br />special events, kids trips, and our Leader in Training program. <br />Harriet Alexander Nature Center Has Two New Exhibits <br />® There are two new exhibit animals of note at the Harriet Alexander Nature <br />Center: a prairie skink (native MN lizard) and a red -bellied snake. <br />Summer Maintenance Needs In Full Swing <br />A total of ten part time maintenance employees are hired for park maintenance <br />and will be reporting soon. Until then, the existing full time staff will keep up as <br />best as possible with all the demands, needs and expectations. By June 1, after <br />schools are out, all part time staff will have reported. Until then, mowing, trimming <br />and all other duties certainly present a challenge. They all do a great job! <br />
