TSCHIDA OWASSO HILLS PLAT 4

All fill material in building areas or roadways shall be compacted to 100% of Standard Proctor density in
the upper three (3) feet and 95% of Standard Proctor density below the upper three (3) feet. Vertical lifts
shall not exceed eight (8) inches loose thickness. The Owner, at his expense, shall employ a recognized
soils laboratory to run compaction tests as required to detennine compliance with these requirements.
Failure to meet the compaction requirement shall mean removal of the material involved and replacement
until this requirement is met, at no additional expense to the Owner. Cost of compaction retests shall be
paid for by the Contractor.

All other embankments placed shall be subject to ordinary compaction requirements. Ordinary
Compaction Requirement is hereby dermed as one foot loose lifts at nearly optimum moisture content
compacted until no further yielding is evident. If so desired by the Engineer, density tests shall be taken to
verify the field observations. Provided such tests are taken, 90% of Std. Proctor density shall be
considered the minimum acceptable density.

Any slope steeper than 4: 1 shall be notched prior to placing any fill thereon. Material other than select
shall be used for embankment only where designated by the Engineer. This material shall be placed in the
embankment by methods similar to the Ordinary Compaction Method, as are feasible.

The limits of this excavation will be 1/2:1 slopes providing sufficient width at the bottom of the excavation
to allow a 1: 1 side slope of the pad embankment (street or building) and length and depth as approved by
the Soils Engineer of his authorized representative and to the bottom of all organic materials. The
excavation will be left open to allow the Soils Engineer to inspect the foundation materials, take necessary
tests and measure cross-sections for payment.

The edges of all backs lopes and fill slopes shall be shaped to blend into the natural ground and shall be
covered with a minimum of six (6) inches of topsoil.

All streets shall be graded to within 0.2 feet of the grade required under this Contract. The 0.2 foot
tolerance shall not be consistently high or low leaving the project with an unbalanced excess or shortage of
material for final street construction by others. The method of measurement for common excavation shall
be plan quantity.

4. SUBGRADE EXCA V A TION

This work consists of excavation below finished grade or 12 inches below natural ground whichever is
lower to remove unstable or organic material prior to placing embankments for streets or building areas.
This item does not apply to the nonnal sub cut to allow topsoil placement as provided under "Common
Excavation".

The basis of measurement and payment for Subgrade Excavation shall be Measured Quantity. Topsoil
stripping up to 12 inches in fill areas is incidental and is to be included in the unit price for common
excavation plan quantity, therefore 12 inches will be deducted from measured depth in detennining
payment quantity for subgrade excavation.

5. SELECT BORROW EXCA V A TION

Select Borrow Excavation, if detennined by the Engineer as required, shall be material needed to complete
select embankments, when the available common excavation material has been fully utilized.

-2-
