No deviation from the required line or grade will be allowed except with the <br />consent of the ENGINEER. <br /> <br />Trench excavation and bedding preparations shall proceed ahea~ of pipe placement as <br />will permit proper placement and joining of the pipe and fittings at the prescribed grade <br />and alignment without unnecessary hindrance. Every reasonable precaution shall be <br />taken to prevent foreign materials from entering the pipe while it is being placed in the <br />line. The pipe, manhole and catch basin materials shall be carefully lowered into laying <br />position by the use of suitable restraining devices. Under no circumstances shall the pipe <br />be dropped or dumped into the trench. <br /> <br />Before being lowered into laying position, the Contractor shall make a thorough visual <br />inspection of each pipe section and appurtenant units to detect damage, foreign matter <br />needing remov~ or unsound conditions that may need corrective action or be cause for <br />rejection. Inspection procedure shall be as approved by the ENGINEER, with special <br />methods being required as he deems necessary to check out suspected defects more <br />definitely. The Contractor shall infonn the ENGINEER of any defects discovered and <br />the ENGINEER will prescribe the required corrective actions or order rejection and <br />prompt removal from the site. <br /> <br />Inunediately before placement, the joint surfaces of each pipe section and fitting shall be <br />inspected for the presence of foreign matter, coating blisters, rough edges or projections, <br /> <br />500-3 <br /> <br />\ <br />
