Existinq Data Review The Property was toured on January 21, 1991, to familiarize and orient important site and local features to available maps, photographs, and other information. sequential aerial photographs from 1940, 1945, 1953, 1957, and 1989 (References 1, 2 and 3) were reviewed to assess historical land use practices. Local physiography was evaluated by reviewing topographic maps available from the united states Geological Survey (USGS) (Reference 4). Soil classifications for the Property were obtained from soil survey data published by the united states Department of Agriculture (USDA) (Reference 5). The location of filled areas, dumps, landfills, spills and ongoing clean-up activities documented by the USDA (Reference 5) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) (Reference 6) were identified and compared to the Property location. site Inspection I I I I I I I I The building and property were inspected by Northern Environmental personnel on January 21, 1991. This inspection included a walkthrough of the building and the immediate areas to the south, west and north of the building. Snow cover over the remainder of the Property prevented the collection of surficial soil samples for evaluation and the evaluation and recording of areas which may exhibit such characteristics as stained soils, stressed vegetation, or which might be found to be littered with debris. Walkthrough Asbestos Inspection Representatives of Northern Environmental and Bay West, Inc. conducted a walkthrough asbestos inspection of the building on January 21, 1991. This inspection was limited to visual observations. The inspection did not include the collection of samples of suspected materials containing asbestos nor inspection of non-accessible areas such as piping inside floor spaces. Data Analvsis and Report Preparation Data collected during the completion of tasks 1 through 3 were evaluated and assembled into the following assessment report. I
