Allied Building
Products Corp. purcbascd Builders Supply, Inc, in September, 1997. We entered into a seven-year lease
with the property owner. Allied is the premier distributor of building materials in tbe United States, and
our goal was to bring resid~ittial roofing into our locatiOn in the Twin Cities market. We were unaware of
the restrictions on outside stonIge that exist in Roseville. We informed you of our need to relocate to a
facility where outside storage was an option, and the Council grant~ us extended time to search for .sudta
property. HoweveI:". the extension lO March 31, 1999 is not sufficient for os to reach ow- goal. The damage
caused by the major hailstorm in 1998 has not a1J been replaced or repaired, We ate providing the building
contractors with the ma.te:riills to meet the needs of the people to renovate th.e homes in the affected area,
Work will begin again after April l!lt and outside storage will be required to suppon the program.

Allied is a client of tbe Stllte of Minnesota. You have received correspondence and 9pOken to Mr, Steve
Sussman, an Economic Development Specialist, with the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic
~el.opmeDt., The State tecosnizes, that Allied c.an create MW Jab!! and tIIOOIlOmic. growth. in Minnesota..
They have committed to find an appropriate site tbat meets ()UT requirements. Allied win likely purchase
land and build a facility in the Metro area. Even if we found the right sight today, construction time must
be factored into our request for extension,

Tn.Q[der. tOt: Min1J~t" to MIp 1Js.t:ind OUf site, we r~spedful1y request an extension ofstorage restrictions
to December 31, 1999-. During thi~ extension period, we will follow the recommendarioDs of tbe City of
Roseville to reduce the impact of outside storage, We would store 40 pound packages, neady bundled and
stacked, and enclosed by whatever type offencingthe Council woUld deem appropriate. We do not believe
the bundles of shingles would present an "eye-sore" or an attraction for thieves, We are making a good
faith effQ1t to find an alteroative site in as short a time frame as possible, and we appreciate your
comideration to our request. Our goal is to gJ'OW' our business in Minnesota, and we thank you for your
assistance.

S"\f',P.. ~
JacGX:;\J ~

Chief Financial Officer

JB/jk
cc: Charles Egan, Corporate Counsel- Allied Building Products Corp,
Steve Sussman, Minnesota Economic Development Specialist
John McLaughlin, Northern Plains Regional Manap- ~ Allied Building Produ~ Corp.

C:'.JI&Ck\Wdsda.Dcn:
