From:
Sent:
To:

~~~~~~~bf;~~t~~com]
DENNIS WELSCH (E-mail)
\O~ ~,^u.l., I ~
<:~~~
Welsch, Dennis
Dennis,
Since I will be unable to attend the February 22, 1999 council meeting, I
" would like to have this memo included into the council packets for their
. review.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my feelings on the pending
application of Linda'e Garden Center at the former HOM Furniture property.
Having been a member of the James 4th Addition Task Force, I am feeling that
our work has been done in vain. I was told at the last council meeting with
the task force that the westerly part of the HOM property was to be included
in the proposed rezoning to some type of residential housing. If this
application is approved, then the property would be tied up and no zoning
changes would be able to occur.
The intent of the whole six plus acres was to redevelop it into a lower
traffic generating type of use. As I see what is happening with the HOM
property and the possible proposal of a small strip mall and office building
on the south side of Oakcrest, the exact opposite is going to happen.
What ever happened to the senior housing concept? At a council meeting
about a month ago, the council recognized a report that showed the city is
in need of this type of housing. Why isn't this being considered any more
for this site?
I would greatly appreciate any comments on this memo.
Thanks,
Lynn H.
