Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />June 18, 2014 <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />Ms. Collins stated the Police Department has also done open forums to work with groups that are <br />from war torn areas of the world and have a fear of police. <br />Chair Groff stated it would be good for the HRC to attend the outreach programs. <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the number of times the Police Department deploys Tasers is <br />average for a community the size of Roseville. <br />Commissioner Singleton stated it is in line with the National average. <br />City-Wide Read Program <br />Commissioner Bachhuber provided information about the One Book One Community program <br />as an engagement opportunity. The HRC could partner with a business or the Library for this <br />type of program. She asked if this was something the Commission was interested in pursuing. <br />Chair Groff stated the book that would be read would make a difference if it would be something <br />the HRC would be supporting. The Library had expressed interested in working with the HRC <br />in the past. <br />Commissioner Thao stated it would be worth looking into. <br />Vice Chair Becker stated this could also be something the Community Engagement Commission <br />would be interested in. The HRC could pick the book and the CEC could promote the <br />community involvement. <br />Chair Groff suggested a sub-committee to work on this project and he would work with <br />Commissioner Bachhuber on this project. <br />Civility Training Update <br />Commissioner Carey stated she had looked into the civility training that had been offered <br />through her job and the spokesperson suggested something closer to work with the Commissions <br />budget. She talked to a group in Texas that does Civility and Government and they will be in <br />Minnesota in August and the cost for this would be $50 per person with a minimum of 40 <br />people. She stated she is also contacting the colleges and universities. They could partner with <br />other communities. <br />Chair Groff stated the HRC does not have the budget for this currently but they could apply for <br />grants and they would also have to work with other communities. <br />Ms. Collins stated the Roseville Community Fund has $2500 available for grants and there may <br />be other potential grant opportunities. <br /> <br />
