<br />Family Academy will operate multi-age classrooms offering children the ability to <br />work cooperatively with their peers. <br /> <br />Children will be assessed as to their progress in each subject area by their individual <br />learning plan, teacher testing, parent conferences and portfolios. The areas that <br />children must demonstrate competency are: <br /> <br />1. Language Arts <br />2. History and Geography <br />3. Visual Arts <br />4. Music <br />5. Mathematics <br />6. Science <br />7. Social and Emotional Skills <br /> <br />Upon approval by the State Board, and prior to opening, Family Academy will <br />submit a Minnesota Graduation Standards implementation manual to the <br />Commissioner of the Department of Children, Families & Learning. <br /> <br />Attached is an example curriculum in two subject areas for two grade levels, grades <br />Kindergarten and Third Grade. See attached at Tab No. 5 & 6. <br /> <br />B. Education Delivery <br /> <br />1. Family Academy goal is to promote parent involvement and participation by <br />providing parent-teacher conferences every six (6) weeks; parents will assist <br />the students with academics and maintain a close relationship with the <br />teachers and administrators; the school will have regular community events <br />that will require parent participation and support; several of the Board of <br />Directors will be parents who will be responsible for organizing and <br />implementing school activities and events, in which the students, parents and <br />teachers will work together. <br /> <br />2. The students will be learning in a multi-age classroom with both typical and <br />non-typical students in groups of 1 teacher to 20 students with the exception <br /> <br />Family' Academy Proposal - Page 10 <br />February 29, 2000 <br />
