September 11, 2000

Mr. Thomas Paschke, City Planner
City of Roseville Community Development Department
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113

Re: Proposed Garage
2985 Lexington A venue North
Roseville, MN 55113

Dear Mr. Paschke:

I am writing to follow up our 8/31/00 conversation regarding our proposed two car detached garage.
As we discussed, I just heard from Mr. Joe Richter of the Minnesota DNR that the DNR has no
objections to the proposed garage, provided the end of the four foot apron extending from the garage
ends at the edge of the existing driveway. The original plan was to set the garage back to allow a small
drive into the garage. The end result now will require us to drive past the garage and turn around to
enter it.

As you know, we worked extensively with the Ramsey County Public Works Department, as well as
the Parks and Recreation Department about the possibility of building the garage east of our property
which would have completely eliminated the need to request a variance from the 75 foot set back from
the lake. After weeks of discussion, it was determined this was not feasible. Consequently, our talks
turned to the DNR which resulted in the current proposal to build the garage even with the driveway.

Enclosed is a copy of the revised survey, showing the proposed garage's apron at the edge of the
driveway. It is suggested we place this garage on the property line to keep it as far away from the lake
as possible. This would make it 6.5 feet from the existing chain link fence separating our property from
the adjacent county property.

We intend to finish the exterior of the garage with stucco which will blend with the existing stucco
exterior of our home. The home and proposed garage should complement each other nicely. We also
intend to landscape around the garage to make it further blend with the surroundings.

Please do give our proposal serious consideration. We have spent a great deal of time and energy in
ongoing discussions with the City of Roseville, Ramsey County Public Works Department, Ramsey
County Parks and Recreation, as well as the DNR to come to our current situation. Our current vehicle
storage situation has been a significant hardship on our family. We look forward to your review.
Please let us know if there is any further information we can provide to move things along. Thank
you again for your consideration.

Sincerely,

~11~r-

David Mickelson

(651) 415-0440
