Acquire, demolish and redevelop outdated, ~erutuilized strip mall and two dilapidated ho~ <br />as rental townhouses and mixed-use building. <br /> <br />Other Funding: <br />......:~City match of $500,000 for Maryland and Hazel townnouse/mixed use component: additional <br />city funds of $1.6 million for other components. <br /> <br />Regional Connections: <br />. The project is part of the long-term corridor-wide Phalen Corridor development plan, with <br />linkages to a significant concentration of jobs on downtown St.Paul and along the corridor, <br />including 2000 new industrial jobs within the corridor. <br />. The corridor is one of three or four being considered for initial implementation as an exclcusive <br />busway by 2010, with connections to downtown St. Paul. The transitway would likely run on the <br />BN corridor and have a station at Maryland and Johnson Parkway. <br /> <br />When in the Ground: <br />. Three components are slated to be implemented in Spring 2001: Townhouses and mixed-use <br />commercial at Maryland and Hazelwood, senior housing cooperative at Maryland and Johnson <br />Parkway, and Phalen wetland restoration. <br /> <br />4. Guardian Angels Redevelopment, Hastings <br /> <br />Model: Reinvestment and Infill In A Traditional Downtown <br /> <br />Project in Brief: <br />. Preserve ':Ind reuse a church, rectory and three-story school building for affordable housing, <br />day care, community center and domestic abuse shelter. <br />. Build ten rental townhouses on the one-block site. <br />. 26 of 30 total units on the block will be affordable at 50 percent of median income. <br /> <br />Advisory Committee Comments: <br />. The project will reuse historic buildings for good community needs. <br />. Innovative uses in an area beginning to decline. <br />. Will keep public service providers downtown. <br />.
