Human Rights Commission Minutes
October 15, 2014 – Draft Minutes
Commissioner Carey asked if the Commission would like to continue securing the funding
133
before establishing a date.
134
135
Commissioner Singleton suggested moving forward. The Commission has reached a consensus
136
on hosting the training and funds have been secured already for the event.
137
138
Commissioner Singleton moved, and Commissioner Slade seconded a motion to approve the
139
Civility Training proposal as presented and Commissioner Carey to continue to secure funding
140
for the event.
141
142
Commissioner Bachhuber expressed concerns about the funding.
143
144
Chair Groff stated the event would be contingent on securing the funding. He stated he would
145
also reach out to the Rotary Club and find out what the status is for the funding request.
146
147
Commissioner Cederberg asked how connected the Civility Training was to the Community-
148
Wide Read.
149
150
Commissioner Carey stated it would be more of a book club because the Community-Wide read
151
was more than the Commission could do at this time. The Library is more inclined to do a book
152
club where those interested could read the book that goes with the training and then meet to
153
discuss it.
154
155
Motion passed unanimously.
The motion was called to a vote.
156
157
Commissioner Carey stated Ms. Watts would be willing to meet with the Commission as well.
158
159
c.Update on Forums/Programs Addressing Mental Health
160
161
Commissioner Slade stated she had gathered some information and there were several directions
162
the Commission could take in regards to this topic. There is some programming going on
163
through the Alzheimer’s organization in Roseville and (National Alliance of Mental Illness)
164
NAMI has a community dialogue format already set up as well as other comprehensive
165
programs. She would be willing to contact NAMI or the Make It OK Organization if the
166
Commission was interested in looking into hosting some kind of event on mental illness.
167
168
Commissioner Bachhuber suggested contacting NAMI and asking them what programming they
169
would recommend for Roseville.
170
171
Commissioner Slade clarified Commissioner Slade was looking to bring the different
172
organizations together and having a forum.
173
174
Commissioner Slade stated this would be an option.
175
176
