Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />October 15, 2014 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 5 of 8 <br />Commissioner Singleton stated he would support a forum. He recommended Commissioner <br />177 <br />Slade provide the Commission a proposal on what Commissioner Slade would like to see the <br />178 <br />Commission do. <br />179 <br />180 <br />Chair Groff suggested Commissioner Slade contact NAMI and see what they would recommend <br />181 <br />and a suggested timeline. <br />182 <br />183 <br />Commissioner Thao stated one of the future agenda items is to review the Committees and who <br />184 <br />is on the Committees. The Programming Committee would be responsible for putting together <br />185 <br />the type of programs Commissioner Slade and Commissioner Carey are recommending. The <br />186 <br />Committee would go through the details and make the final recommendations to the Commission <br />187 <br />for a vote. <br />188 <br />189 <br />Commissioner Singleton asked what the financial commitments would be for this type of <br />190 <br />program. <br />191 <br />192 <br />Commissioner Slade stated she would need to look into this and she would have a more formal <br />193 <br />proposal for the next meeting. <br />194 <br />195 <br />d.League of MN Human Rights Commissions Annual Meeting Update <br />196 <br />197 <br />Commissioner Singleton stated the new location would be the Brooklyn Park City Hall <br />198 <br />Chambers and the change of venue cards have been sent out. The meeting is from 1:00 p.m. to <br />199 <br />3:00 p.m. on October 25. There will be elections at this meeting and discussion on upcoming <br />200 <br />agendas. There will be a speaker presenting Ebola and the effects that it could have in <br />201 <br />Minnesota and Diversity in Politics. <br />202 <br />203 <br />e.Review Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM) Gala <br />204 <br />205 <br />Commissioner Singleton commended KOM on their successful operations. They had a nice <br />206 <br />report on what they have done this year and what they are planning for next year. <br />207 <br />208 <br />Chair Groff stated the speaker was crucial to explaining what the organization does for people. <br />209 <br />210 <br />Commissioner Slade asked if the KOM Dancers would be partnering with the Commission next <br />211 <br />year for the parade. <br />212 <br />213 <br />Chair Groff stated this would be something the Commission would need to discuss. He stated he <br />214 <br />does try to meet with the organization a couple of times a year to understand their concerns and <br />215 <br />maintain a relationship with them. <br />216 <br />217 <br />Commissioner Thao stated once the Committees were reviewed there might be an opportunity to <br />218 <br />look at doing some additional things with KOM in order to promote integration and having <br />219 <br />speakers come to the Commission. <br />220 <br />221 <br />
