~

e

e

proposed garage" (1 had that put on). "We've decided you need
a special permit (PUD)." "Where's n list of the people ~ithin
250 feet of your property?" (1 got it.) "We need a list of
people within 350 feet of your property." (1 got that too.) All
of the above requirements were never prefaced with a please or
one semblance of courtesy. The manner was always arrogant. abrupt,
and contemptuous. Once, in frustratlon, my wife said, "our real
~8tate taxes on that property are $4400 per year. We pay them
and you treat us like crim1nalsl" The official growled. "Is
that all? You've got a good deal!" Some deal!

My wife speculates that one of our problems is that we have taken
in many temporary foster children in the summer. Several are
mixed race. She had one child w1th her dur1ng her first meeting.
We have never taken a cent for th1S because 1 spent several years
of my childhood in foster homes. I remember th~ influence of
exposure to suburban and rural living and developed my love for
water and f1shing from that. 1 remember the klndness of people
who took s little time from thelr life for a poor inner-city kid
from & broken home. We are orly trying tc do the same. 1 promise
you that the k1ds we have around are temporary and no threat to
the integrity (?) of Roseville.

Since 1963 I have spent the summers on Lake Owasso. 1 water
ski~ed and fle~ my kite behind my boat. Most old time residents
know of me. Much of my t1me was spent performing for charity and
even after winning a national champ10nshipt 1 never charged for
any charitable performance. Hardly the actions of a criminal.

When the marina vas for sale on Lake Owasso, ~e bought it and
paid full ask1ng pr1ce. Others had made offers, but ~e loved it
and thought lt would be perfect for our retlrement. Uere one of
those pend1ng offers from someone ln the Rosev1lle c~ty machinery?
Did we take his dream away? Heret buddYt you can have lt back'

The constant reference to my occupatlor. as a pilot has us
confused. One officlal was especlally lnterested ln my ~il1tary
background. This affects our belng able to build a garage?
Because 1 commanded a bomblng and strafing operatlon in the Far
East~ I must apologize to a paclflst in Roseville? Yes, the
airline 1S a good job. Every 6 months the FAA reQui~e~ t~=t r
demonstrate for 4 hours my proflclency and kno~ledge. How many
of the boys at Roseville vould stlll be vorking if they had to
do the same? Yes. 1 fell lnto th1S good deal because of the
mil1taty. When the hel1copter crew pried me out of my crumpled
plane after I couldn't ball out and rode it in, 1 thoug"t, "boy.
what a great way to get a fat airline job! Maybe if 1 llve and
they clean off the blood. sew me up, and lhe bones heal, 1111
get hired." I'm sure the chunks of my roommates and buddrs that
I helped ident1fy and bury would llke the ~ame job. UP YOURS,
ROSEVILLE,

There 18 (at the time of th1S wrltlng) a hole wlth cement blocks

-2-
