She had understood the focus of this programming would be to focus on those areas of
mental illness that are not as common but people are struggling in the community, such as
bipolar disorder and depression. She suggested having a series of events that focus on different
areas such as refugees and immigrants, youth, and the elderly.
Chair Groff stated he had envisioned a general session to start with then following up with more
specific topics.
Ms. Collins stated it could be possible to host a series of sessions within the Commissions budget
if they could keep the honorary costs low enough.
Commissioner Thao suggested discussions surrounding victims of torture would be a separate
topic.
Commissioner Bachhuber suggested having the initial session with NAMI and presenting an
overview of inental health for the first hour then do something on a more specific topic.
Commissioner Slade stated they could look at setting up the panel to discuss living with specific
mental health issues and what that is like day to day.
Commissioner Carey asked if NAMI had people that would be willing to speak and be less
costly. The face and name is only a small part of what the story would be.
Commissioner Sinleton moved and Commissioner Bachhuber seconded a motion to
approval a maximum budet allocation of $300 to cover honorarium fees for a mental
health forum and to urovide a detailed report of the event.
Commissioner Thao requested Commissioner Slade provide a more detailed report for the
Commission to review regarding the forum. She suggested having a member of the community
be a part of the forum as well.
Chair Groff requested other groups of people such as youth be considered for the forum.
The motion was called to a vote. The motion passed unanimouslv.
