December 28, 1983
Planning Office Hours
-3-
0
7) Dotray - 633-7161. Paul Dotray is the Managing Director of Vertimag, who
have now purchased the "R2E" buildin g, which is north of County Road C at
tlle extreme west boundary of the City. This building was built, as you may
recall, by M&M Development Company. Vertimag is an electronics firm that
is apparently on the leading edge of new technology, which will increase the
storage capacity on magnetic tape by ten times. Ultimately the buildir.g may
have 500 persons. 'I'heir immediate conce rn is an identification sign on
County Road C. We noted that until a public street is brought to the property
from the south (to their southeast corner) that a sign at C would seem
appropriate. We advised Gordy Beseth to give them a temporary sign permit
for a small 3' x 4' sign which formally identified the property, and that
they should apply for a variance if they desire a larger sign during the
interim period until the public street it ultimately developed.:to their
p rope rty .
8) Minnesota Fede.ral - 489-8041. Duane Miram, from Minnesota Federal, was in
to discuss the possible expansion of their drive-in facilities for their
' building north of the shoppin g center at Larpenteur and Lexington. It
appeared from the existing site plans that the facilities can be exp•:nded
to the south to include an additional teller, without violating Code
requirements.
9) Ficek - 631-1213. Dave Ficek and Norm Wells were in to get additional
information regarding the potential movement of Brown Institute to Roseville.
We discussed zoning and building regulation requirements as they may apply
to the George Reilin g property off Highway 8 and County Road D.
10) Stark - 487-1685.
to discuss possible
Comprehensive Plan
pendin g development
Myra Stark, representing La Seniorita Restaurant, was in
sites in the City of Rosevill•e. We reviewed the
with her indicating potential locations, including '
in the tax increment district.
11) Waylen - 339-8015. Nancy Waylen was in to discuss the possible acquisition
of the Last Frontier site for a new restaurant known as Bennigan's. They
would propose to buy the land, tear down the building and build two restaurants
on this site. Dave Drown informed them of the proposed relocation of the
service road that se rves the prop erty, westerly of Snelling Avenue. They
apparently are very interested in this property, but indicated the price of
the land is a considerable factor.
12) Anderson - 888-3255. John Ande rson has the Jiffy Lube franchise for Minnesota,
and was in to discuss the possible construction of a new facility at the
McCarron Hills Shopping Center, at the northwest corner of Larpenteur and
Rice Street. We discussed development requirements, including the parking
ratio of five spaces per thousan d gross. We suggested that if appropriate
parking could be retained for the cente r, that a new structure on the land
could be contemplated, but it appeared there would not be adequate land for
the proposed intent.
