Gaiy Carlson of Carlson Ec{uipment Company, was in to discuss
a proposed V-shaped pylon sign to be consructed on their property, south af
County Road C. Because the sign is V-sllaped, the 100 sq, ft, allowed for one
side of a pylon sign would not be adequate. In other words, the V-shaped sign
wa: too large to comply with the ordinance. We disussed the advisability of
a normal pylon sign (double-faced) , suggesting that it wauld do an adecuate j ob
of iclentification, would look better, and cost 1ess. They are going t pursue :
this concept. I indicated some locations around the Twin Cities where he could
see exampies of signs of this size, set back the distance he would have it fr.om C,
so he can better understand the visivility that would be accrued in his cae.
Solber - 770-3711. Sharon Solberg, Gary McIntyre, and A1 Bies wer.e in to 3iscuss
the passible platting and sale of two lots north of tlle church that Mueller-Bies
converted to a funeral parlor. These lots have been planned for in the past, and
were at one time approved as a preliminary plat, buz not as were platted some ten
ysars ago. It would appear these lots could be platted at this time, inasmuch as
the public street frontage serving the lots has already been developed.
Rax - 881-5072. Dave Bluestone and Bi11 Orrand from the Rax organization, were
in to discuss the expansion of the restaurant by adding a glass-enc.osed solarium
on the south side. We reviewed the plans and fpt.md them ta be on conformance
with City requirements. It would appear the solarium will be a very attractive
add.tion, and present no problems in ierms of location, size, or parking ta serve
the addiional seating capacity. There are 88 seats now; 22 woul d be added,
making a total of 110. They have 7I parki.ng spaces, far exceeding the minimum
requi rements .
9) Johnson - 292-4400. Morrie Johnson lives at 3124 North Hamline (Arden Hills) .
He is a member of the committee appointed by the School Board to review the
future of Lake Johanna School. He was in to discuss the b.ckgr4und as to
Roseville's interest relatirig to the park system and the park development program
around Langdon Lake. His committee proposes o make recommendations to the Scliool
Board regarding the use of the school, and he very much .ppreciated the City°s
ccntribution to the backgrot.md information, and the City's current praposals.
He indicated the City may be invited to attend a meeting with the committee to
offer :urther input in the near future.
10) Wallis - 647-5251. Jim Wa'llis lives on Ireile Couri, and was in to discuss the
possible expansion of his garage, wliich would have involved a minor variance on
t1.e side lot line. 6Ne discussed optional ways of solving this problem. He may
reconsider tlle solution originally contemplatd.
11) Hymanii - 331-1341. Gene Petrowski, Pete Jone, and Connor Sclimid, attorney, were
in 1:o discu the potentiaZ acquisition of portions of the Hymann Motor Freight
land as pa.rt of the Langdon Park addition. VJe reviewed the background to the
development and expansion of the Hymann Motor Fxeight sie, rela;ing to the rezoning
nd the issuance of the special use permit uack in 17b. Ar. Petrowski indicated
they don't want to sell the land to tlie City, because it would require additional
parking spacss being located further from tlle terminal, thus requi ring more time
for personnel to move tractnrs and trailers to and from the terminal.
