Minnesota Human Rights Act by advising the City Council on long range programs to <br />improve relations in the City." <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the second sentence in Section 205.02 should <br />read ��Additionally, the Commission will work to increase inclusion by providing <br />educational and social opportunities, and support topics and issues of human rights." <br />Commissioner Carey stated removing ��around the" prior to ��topics" changes the <br />intent and meaning of this sentence. <br />It was the consensus of the Commission to change the second sentence in Section <br />205.02 to read ��Additionally, the Commission will work to increase inclusion by <br />providing educational and social opportunities that support topics and issues of <br />human rights." <br />Commissioner Slade stated Section 205.02.B was redundant of 205.02.C. <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated Section 205.02.B and 205.02.F were the same and <br />they could remove Section 205.02.B. <br />Commissioner Carey stated her interpretation was Section 205.02.B was focused on <br />City Staff. <br />Commissioner Slade stated 205.02.B does refer more to City Staff and she does like <br />the idea of doing training or programming for Staff but realizes this would take more <br />resources than the Commission has available. <br />Chair Groff stated most of the City Council would support removing Section 205.02.B <br />but they wanted the Commission to review this section to be sure. Removing this <br />section would not limit the Commission. <br />Commissioner Carey stated the Council had felt the Civility Training the Commission <br />did last year would be something that City Staff could do and they would like to see <br />this training done again. This would be something the Commission could work on <br />then hand it off to Staff to continue implementing for City Staff. <br />Chair Groff stated a program like the Civility Training would need to be approved by <br />the City Council because of the on-going cost. <br />Commissioner Carey expressed concern that striking Section 205.02.B would reduce <br />the focus of providing human rights training to City Staff because it was specified in <br />the Commission's scope, duties and functions. <br />Ms. Collins stated Section 205.02.E does include training or programs for community <br />leaders. <br />It was the consensus on the Commission to remove Section 205.02.B. <br />Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Christiansen seconded a <br />motion to accept the proposed changes with additional changes as follows: <br />change line one in Section 205.02 to read ��The purpose of the commission is <br />to encourage full participation and uphold the Minnesota Human Rights Act <br />by advising the City Council on long range programs to improve relations in <br />
