The motion carried unanimously. <br />Chair Groff suggested moving to Item 6.a Presentation from Advocates for Human <br />Rights and then returning to Item 5.c Essay Contest. <br />New Business <br />a. Presentation from Advocates for Human Rights <br />Ms. Sherry Sanders, Chair of Lake McCarrons Neighborhood Association and <br />community leader in southeast Roseville, stated Lake McCarrons had received a <br />grant to host a series of community conversations for the Linking Communities <br />project. <br />Ms. Madeline Lohman, Advocates of Human Rights, stated they had worked with Mr. <br />Grefenberg in the past and organized a community conversation about immigrants' <br />experiences in Roseville. They have been working with the Community Engagement <br />Committee for the last year to continue these community conversations. They were <br />able to receive a grant for the program they put together. The grant would cover <br />costs such as translators, transportation, food, and facilities. This is a bridge building <br />event that includes a dinner and discussions on common problems and what they <br />could do to solve these problems. They are currently working closely with the Karin <br />Organization because this is a newer population to the area. The first event would be <br />offered in Karin with the second event including translators in involve more of the <br />population and allow the Karin to interact with their English speaking neighbors. The <br />third event would involve the school. They would accept participation and leadership <br />from the Human Rights Commission for these events. <br />Ms. Sanders stated the first event would be held in Karin and she asked the <br />Commission to assist with composing questions to ask how the City can help them. <br />The KOM is also assisting with this project. <br />Ms. Lohman stated the grant would be using grant money to fund the staff time and <br />contributions of the KOM for this project. <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked what the timeframe was for these events. <br />Ms. Sanders stated they expect the first event to be March 19 or April 2 if possible. <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked if some of the grant money would be used to teach <br />English to the Karin population. <br />Ms. Sanders stated this was not one of the goals of the project. This project is about <br />bringing people together to resolve concerns and tensions among neighbors. <br />Commissioner Slade asked if childcare would be provided at these events. <br />Ms. Lohman stated they would be providing childcare at the events. She stated they <br />would also share any resource information the Commission may have. They would <br />
