Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />April 20, 2016 – Minutes <br />Page 3 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated she would verify the prize amounts for each place. <br /> <br />Commissioner Christiansen moved and Commissioner Slade seconded a motion to <br />assign the winners of the essay contest as follows: First place to essay #29, <br />Second place to essay #85, Third place to essay #41, and honorable mention to <br />essays #31 and #79 and establishing a prize of $15 each for honorable mention. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the five winning essays would be posted on the website and the City will do <br />a press release. <br /> <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated essay #29 belonged to Isabella Kennedy, #85 belonged to Elite Thor, #85 <br />belonged to Naomi Nickel, #31 belonged to Greta Keffer, and #79 belonged to Tait Haugen. <br />Staff will send letters of congratulation to the students and teachers. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated having a reception prior to the City Council at City Hall would be more <br />convenient. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated the Commission had approved a budget of $250 for the <br />reception. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the Commission would need to start considering the essay question for <br />the fall. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade clarified the City would not be participating in the League of Human <br />Rights Essay Contest in the future. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated this was correct. <br /> <br />b.Rose Parade <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the Commission’s parade participation had been submitted. She asked <br />Commissioners to tweet the theme for the event #IAMROSEVILLE. <br /> <br />Chair Groff suggested the Commission use the letters that were created last year. <br /> <br />Commissioner Christiansen asked if one of the new Commissioners would want to be the <br />lead on the parade planning. She also suggested asking if members from the Second <br />Chance Coalition would want to walk with the Commission in the parade. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated there would also be six members of the Karen Organization walking with <br />the Commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the 2015 budget had included $200 for the parade. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated she had a wagon that could be used to transport candy during <br />the parade. She suggested budgeting $200 for the parade this year for the purchase of <br />candy and other supplies as needed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
