Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />June 15, 2016 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson stated the events in Orlando are the reason there should be a Human <br />Rights Commission. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he had been asked to be on a panel for Metro State University for their Human <br />Rights class. The panel discussed projects they had worked on and the students identified <br />projects they would like to work on in the area of human rights. He stated the KOM dialogue is <br />finishing and the Commission would receive a report on the dialogue. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated he had placed posters throughout the school. The book <br />club meetings are scheduled for June 18 and June 25 at the Library. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Finance Update and Discussion <br /> <br />Ms. Curti reviewed the HRC budget and budgeted expenditures. She asked if the Commission <br />had planned to provide funding for refreshments for the Vote for Women film festival. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson moved and Commissioner Dailey seconded a motion to approve a <br />maximum budget of $75 to provide refreshments for the Vote for Women film festival <br />scheduled for August 18, 2016. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />b.Calendar of Events <br /> <br />Ms. Curti reviewed the calendar of events for the Human Rights Commission and stated she <br />would add the HRC award dates discussed. She pointed out the Commission’s annual meeting <br />with the City Council had been scheduled for October 10, 2016. <br /> <br />Chair Groff asked if the HRC award recipients had received a monetary award in 2015. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated there had not been a monetary award in 2015. <br /> <br />Future Agenda Items <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he would send a request for volunteers to paint the signs for the parade. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey the City Council had requested the Commission be focused on their <br />activities such as mental health and working with the Karen to help them integrate into the <br />community. She asked if the City Council would be appointing another Commissioner to fill the <br />vacancy. She asked if there were other things that the Commission should be working on. <br /> <br /> <br />
