Human Rights Commission Minutes
January 20, 2016 – Draft Minutes
Ms. Collins stated this could be added to the January 20, 2016 meeting minutes for approval at
47
the next Commission meeting. This cannot be added to the December 9, 2015 minutes because
48
this was not brought up at during that meeting but was during the January 20 meeting.
49
50
Youth Commissioner Cederberg stated because he had not been at the December meeting he had
51
been unable to provide his corrections to the October meeting minutes. He stated he had not said
52
the book club had gone good but rather the book club meetings had gone well.
53
54
Ms. Collins stated this change was grammatical and could be done to the minutes because it
55
could be tied back to the video.
56
57
Commissioner Christiansen moved and Commissioner Slade seconded a motion to approve
58
the December 9, 2015 meeting minutes as amended. Motion passed unanimously.
59
60
Chair Groff stated the comments by Youth Commissioner Cederberg about not being contacted
61
for the December meeting date change could be reported under Youth Commission’s Report.
62
63
64
Public Comment on Items Not on Agenda
65
66
There being no one present wishing to speak to the Commission on an item not on the agenda,
67
the Chair moved to the next agenda item.
68
69
70
Old Business
71
72
a.Review Human Rights Commission, “Scope, Duties, and Function” in City Code
73
74
Commissioner Carey stated “reaching out to all members of the community” implied the
75
Commission was contacting all members of the Community and the Commission has not
76
proactively contacted all members of the Community. She reviewed the changes she
77
recommended in section 205.02
78
79
Commissioner Christiansen stated the first sentence in Section 205.02 made it sound like the
80
Commission was partnering with the Minnesota State Human Rights Commission. This is
81
something she has asked about in previous meetings.
82
83
Commissioner Carey stated the word “secure” implied it was the Commission’s responsibility to
84
make sure all residents had a job ad home. She stated the Commission’s role was to advise the
85
City Council and provide education and social opportunities to cultivate civic engagement and
86
civil rights.
87
88
Commissioner Christiansen added the Commission provides a platform or avenue for people in
89
Roseville who have issues, so they have a safe place to voice their concerns.
90
91
