Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 24, 2016 Draft Minutes <br />Page 8of 11 <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated she likes the approach they are taking to get the community involved <br />315 <br />and she would be interested in facilitating for the second community dialogue and submitting <br />316 <br />questions for these events. <br />317 <br /> <br />318 <br />Commissioner Carey asked how they would be able to get those residents who are reluctant to <br />319 <br />attend and participate in these discussions. <br />320 <br /> <br />321 <br />Chair Groff stated there are no guaranteed ways to get these residents to attend. <br />322 <br /> <br />323 <br />Commissioner Christiansen moved, seconded by Commissioner Carey to support the <br />324 <br />McCarrons Neighborhood Association and the Advocates for Human Rights with the <br />325 <br />Community Conversation series they have received a grant for and Commissioners to <br />326 <br />attend and provide questions if possible. <br />327 <br /> <br />328 <br />Commissioner Carey asked for additional details on the first dialogue date. <br />329 <br /> <br />330 <br />Chair Groff stated there would not be an interpreter at the first dialogue so it may not be <br />331 <br />something the Commission would benefit from attending. He encouraged Commissions to <br />332 <br />attend the second dialogue because there would be interpreters. <br />333 <br /> <br />334 <br />The motion carried unanimously. <br />335 <br /> <br />336 <br /> <br />b.Report of Recent Community Events/Review of Upcoming Events <br />337 <br /> <br />338 <br />Commissioner Christiansen stated the Volunteer Celebration on Thursday March 3. This is for <br />339 <br />City volunteers and is not open to the public. <br />340 <br /> <br />341 <br />Ms. Collins stated February 29 there would be a free workshop for parents of youth living with <br />342 <br />mental illness.
