Human Rights Commission Minutes
October 19, 2016

Commissioner Slade stated she has requested assistance in getting a this set up including getting
in contact with the Community Health Action Team (CHAT) to organize an event in January
with a focus on mental health in the elderly.

Commissioner Dailey stated she would be available to assist with the event.

Ms. Curti stated she would forward the contact information for CHAT.

b.Consider Human Rights Award nominees
Commissioner Peterson stated they had received two (2) nominations and have reviewed them.
The first nominee was Angie McGaster-Wood, Assistant Principal at Roseville Area High
School.

Commissioner Dailey stated the second nominations was for Sherry Saunders, Chair for the Lake
McCarron’s Neighborhood Association and founder of Do Good Roseville.

Chair Groff stated he would lean towards awarding Sherry Saunders for her community based
work. The Commission did give out three (3) awards in 2015.

Commissioner Slade stated that as the program continues they are expecting to have more
nominations to consider.

Commissioner Carey stated if the Commission has more than one nominee that has been
instrumental in their work and in the community, then the Commission could consider more than
one award. The Commission should consider how they will expand awareness of the program in
the future.

Commissioner Dailey stated she would recommend giving both nominees awards this year
because they are both well qualified candidates.

Commissioner Eichenlaub stated that if there is a need in the future the award can be divided into
categories such as education based and community based.

Commissioner Slade when there are hundreds of nominees then they could possibly look at
categories but she would not recommend it at this time.

Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Peterson seconded a motion to award Angie
McGaster-Wood and Sherry Saunders the 2016 Human Rights Award. Motion passed
unanimously.

Ms. Curti stated Chair Groff would follow up with the winners and the Commission will follow
up with a letter. The award will be given at a November City Council meeting. She asked if the
Commission would like to have this scheduled on November 14 or November 28.
