Human Rights Commission Minutes October 19, 2016 Page 3 of 6 It was the consensus of the Commission to schedule the award ceremony with the City Council on November 28. c.Review of Council Meeting Chair Groff stated the Commission had reviewed their last year activities and received direction from the City Council for the next year. d.Review of Community Conversation Chair Groff stated the Community Conversation Imagine Roseville had been on October 4. Commissioner Slade stated the conversation had included the Police Chief providing policy information for residents and a facilitated conversation. There were about 200 residents in attendance. There had been feedback that residents would like to continue conversations to learn more and find action steps. Ms. Curti stated the residents had made the event successful. The video presentation will air on Channel 16 and YouTube and the final report will be distributed. There is another event scheduled in December and there will be a separate webpage on this topic within the City’s website. She stated there has been discussion about establishing a point person but there has not been anyone appointed at this time. e.Potential Collaboration with Roseville Area High School Ms. Curti stated she had received a list of activities sponsored by the High School from Ms. Nichols and information from Ms. Ellis. She reviewed the events scheduled for the next 6- months with the Commission. These events provide an opportunity for the Commission to support and/or promote cultural events within the City. Chair Groff stated the City Council would like the Commission to be involved with cultural events. He suggested looking into co-sponsoring and/or advertising these events. Ms. Curti clarified these events are open to the community. Commissioner Slade suggested sponsoring a table at the One World event in April or possibly bring a speaker or performer for the event. Commissioner Slade suggested Youth Commissioner Hansel discuss getting involved with the High School Human Rights group. Ms. Curti stated the Commission could assist with planning and advertising. She stated she would follow up with them to find out how they would like the Human Rights Commission to get involved. Chair Groff stated he would like to have the Commission promote all of the events they are sponsoring.
