Human Rights Commission Minutes
October 19, 2016

Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Dailey seconded a motion to provide ongoing
involvement with the RAHS One World multi-cultural event and to promote other cultural
events sponsored through RAHS. Motion passed unanimously.

f.Potential Collaboration with Ramsey County Library – Race: The Power of an
Illusion

Ms. Curti stated the Library has programming in January and February that focus on race and
they would like the Commission to partner with them and assist with promoting the events.
They are looking at doing a showing of the three-part series “Race: The Power of an Illusion” in
March or April. There is a $50 licensing for this series and this may be a potential cost that the
Commission may be asked to cover. She does not have specific information on the
programming the Library has planned for early 2017 but she will provide this information to the
Commission at the November meeting for further discussion.

Chair Groff suggested asking Do Good Roseville to let attendees of their showing of this film
series know that it would be shown again in the spring of 2017.

Ms. Curti stated she would let the Library know that the Commission would like to move
forward with working with them for the showing of “Race: The Power of an Illusion.” The
Library has suggested the Roseville HRC also partner with the Shoreview HRC for this film
series.

Commissioner Eichenlaub made a motion to partner with the Library and to direct staff to
contact the Shoreview HRC and request they partner with the Roseville HRC for the showing of
the film series “Race: The Power of an Illusion.”

Commissioner Carey stated she thought there was an honorarium that would need to be paid
along with the $50 licensing fee. She asked if this was something the Commission would have
to pay.

Chair Groff stated an honorarium is usually paid by the sponsors and/or co-sponsors of an event.
The Commission will need to discuss their monetary support at a future meeting.

Commissioner Peterson seconded the motion on the table. Motion passed unanimously.

Ms. Curti asked if the Commission would want to co-sponsor or promote the Do Good Roseville
showing of the film series that would be starting in November.

Commissioner Slade suggested promoting the event at this time with the potential to co-sponsor
at a future time.

Commissioner Carey stated the Commission should make sure that the events they are
supporting and promoting are moving in the direction the City is moving in. If the Commission
is going to co-sponsor events, then the Commission would need to be more involved with the
planning to ensure the event is in line with the City’s goals.
