Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />October 19, 2016Draft Minutes <br />Page 2of6 <br />Commissioner Slade stated she has requested assistance in getting a this set up including getting <br />47 <br />in contact with the Community Health Action Team (CHAT) to organize an event in January <br />48 <br />with a focus on mental health in the elderly. <br />49 <br />50 <br />Commissioner Dailey stated she would be available to assist with the event. <br />51 <br />52 <br />Ms. Curti stated she would forward the contact information for CHAT. <br />53 <br />54 <br />b.Consider Human Rights Award nominees <br />55 <br />Commissioner Peterson stated they had received two (2) nominations andhave reviewed them. <br />56 <br />The first nomineewasAngie McGaster-Wood, Assistant Principal at Roseville Area High <br />57 <br />School. <br />58 <br />59 <br />Commissioner Dailey stated the second nominations was for Sherry Saunders, Chair for the Lake <br />60 <br />nder of Do Good Roseville. <br />61 <br />62 <br />Chair Groff stated he would lead towards awarding Sherry Saunders for her community based <br />63 <br />work. The Commission did give out three (3)awards in 2015. <br />64 <br />65 <br />Commissioner Slade stated that as the program continues they are expecting to have more <br />66 <br />nominations to consider. <br />67 <br />68 <br />Commissioner Carey stated if the Commission has more than one nominee that has been <br />69 <br />instrumental in theirwork and in the community,then the Commission could consider more than <br />70 <br />one award. The Commission should consider how they will expand awareness of the program in <br />71 <br />the future. <br />72 <br />73 <br />Commissioner Dailey stated she would recommend giving both nominees awards this year <br />74 <br />because they are both well qualified candidates. <br />75 <br />76 <br />Commissioner Eichenlaub stated that if there is a needin the future the award can be divided into <br />77 <br />categories such as education based and community based. <br />78 <br />79 <br />Commissioner Slade when there are hundreds of nominees then they could possibly look at <br />80 <br />categories but she would not recommend it at this time. <br />81 <br />82 <br />Commissioner Careymoved and Commissioner Peterson seconded a motion to award Angie <br />83 <br />McGaster-Wood and Sherry Saunders the 2016 Human Rights Award. Motion passed <br />84 <br />unanimously. <br />85 <br />86 <br />Ms. Curti stated Chair Groff would follow up with the winners and the Commission will follow <br />87 <br />up with a letter. The award will be given at a November City Council meeting. She asked if the <br />88 <br />Commission would like to have this scheduled on November 14 or November 28. <br />89 <br />90 <br /> <br />
