Human Rights Commission Minutes
January 18, 2017

Ms. Kathy Ramundt stated she would be letting people know through her network.

Ms. Curti stated the City has printed flyers and will put in the newspaper, Nextdoor, twitter and
Facebook. This will also be extended to the people that attended Imagine Roseville.

Commissioner Carey asked if there would be enough space at the Library for the event.

Ms. Curti stated the event is a partnership with the Library so they would be hosting and
promoting it.

Ms. Sanders explained the hope was that there would be others inspired to host similar events or
check it out from the Library and watch it at home.

Chair Groff stated the Shoreview Human Rights Commission is also promoting the event.

Commissioner Slade suggested Ms. Sanders, Ms. Ramundt, and Mr. Eubanks attend a Shoreview
Human Right Commission meeting to answer any questions they may have about the series as
well.

Mr. Eubanks asked if the Commission viewed this event as an educational opportunity or an
opportunity for people to view the series and have discussions.

Chair Groff stated this would be a conversation and not a classroom educational opportunity.

Ms. Curti stated the Library would cover the moderator’s stipend but they do ask that the
Commission provide refreshments. She estimated the cost to be $300 total for the three events.
If Shoreview agrees then this would be split with them.

Commissioner Peterson moved and Commissioner Carey seconded a motion to allocate up to
$100 per showing of the movie series Race: The Power of an Illusion, for a total of $300, to be
used for refreshments. Motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Peterson asked if the Commission would change their meeting night from March
15 so the Commission can attend the final showing.

It was the consensus of the Commission to change the March HRC meeting to March 29.

b.Update on Gray Matters presentation January 19

Commissioner Dailey stated she had talked to Kay King about making this event part of a series
and she had stated that she would prefer to work with an organization only once in a calendar
year because she is the only coordinator for elder mental illness. NAMI would be able to other
events or the Commission could consider doing a second collaboration with Kay next January.
