Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />January 18, 2017 <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he would also try to attend. He stated the Commission had previously <br />approved supporting the event and providing $150. <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Recruitment for vacancy on the Human Rights Commission and other <br />commissions <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the City currently has 8 advisory commissions and there are 6 vacancies for <br />terms that start Apri1for 3 years and 1 vacancy is a partial term. She encouraged the <br />Commissioners to recruit for these positions to create a diverse voice for the City. There is <br />information on the City’s website. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade asked if there was a brochure available. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated currently there is not a brochure but she could make that recommendation. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated having this type of brochure would be great to have at events like the <br />One World Multi-Cultural event and Imagine Roseville. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the HRC would have one vacancy. <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated he had no additional information at this time. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the Human Rights Club at the High School is currently <br />working on a project with the focus of bringing people together. On January 31, students will be <br />encouraged to write down stereotypes that others have about them followed by their truths. <br />These would then be displayed in the main area of the school for students to look at them, reflect, <br />th <br />and discuss. The Club is also talking to the 9 grade social studies classes about human rights <br />including the Syrian refugee crises, violence against women, and freedom of speech and press. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Update on Imagine Roseville Community Conversations <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the first event was in October with a follow-up discussion in December. The <br />discussion in December was about what could be done in specific areas. The consultant is <br />putting this information together for the City to determine what they can do. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated the HRC could get involved with the action steps once these are <br />identified. <br /> <br />
