Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 15, 2017 –Minutes <br />Page 3 of 4 <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Rose Parade Participation <br />Commissioner Dailey stated she would work on getting cheerleaders for the event. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated that the Human Rights Commission and the Community Engagement <br />Commission would be melding in some way. She has already sent in the application for the <br />parade, which includes a write up on the Commission but this can be changed if needed. <br /> <br />Chair’s Report <br /> <br /> <br />a.Update on Imagine Roseville Community Conversations <br />Chair Groff stated he along with Ms. Curti and Commissioner Slade had attended the Imagine <br />Roseville Community Conversation. There is one more meeting and then a follow-up on the <br />action steps. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Hansel stated the Human Rights Club at the High School is currently <br />working on a project with the focus of bringing people together. On January 31 students were <br />encouraged to write down stereotypes that others have about them followed by their truths. <br />These would then be displayed in the main area of the school for students to look at them, reflect, <br />and discuss. There had been over 2,000 responses to this activity. The Club had done some <br />th <br />teaching in the 9 grade social studies classes and this had been well received and the Club was <br />th <br />asked to teach all the 9 grade classes next trimester. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated the Club could do a display at City Hall for the stereotypes project they have <br />worked on. <br /> <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated Youth Commissioner Cederberg has been serving for three years and he will be <br />transitioning off the Commission because he has graduated. She asked if the Commission would <br />want to look at recruiting for a Youth Commissioner. She stated the City Council approved a <br />motion to join the Human Rights Commission and the Community Engagement Commission. <br />The Council suggested the Commission appoint two members to serve on a sub-committee to <br />work through the transition. It is her understanding that all the members on both Commissions <br />will be on one commission and through attrition membership will be dropped to the number the <br />Council determines would be appropriate. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated there was not an immediate need to make any changes. He asked Youth <br />Commissioner Hansel to let others know there would be openings. <br /> <br />Commissioner Daily and Commissioner Peterson stated they would serve on the sub-committee. <br /> <br /> <br />
