March 29,2017 <br />Item 5.B <br />Essay Contest <br />Update <br />In September 2016 the Human Rights Commission distributed theessay contest question to <br />public and private schools within the Roseville Area SchoolDistrict. In January the City <br />received 120 essaysfrom sixth, seventh and eighth gradersfrom Little Canada Elementary, <br />RosevilleArea Middle School and St. Jerome School. <br />Subcommittee members Gabriel Cederberg, Nicole Daily, John Eichenlaub, and Elizabeth <br />Hansel readthe essays and selectedthe top essays to be considered by the entire commission. <br />Commissioners are askedread and score the essays and submit scores to staff liaison Carolyn <br />Curti by April 13 so that the scores can be tallied, and the commission canmake a final decision <br />on top essays and honorable mentions at the April 19 commission meeting. <br />Essay contest winners will be invited to the May 8 council meeting to receive a certificate,and <br />the top three winners will be invited to read their essays. <br /> <br />
