Commissioner Slade stated the faith community member was also a Dreamer.

Ms. Curti stated they would ask people to come in the second day and consider ideas
the City has in response to immigration policies.

Commissioner Carey asked if the Commission would be able to get the demographic
information from the schools.

Ms. Curti stated this information is available after they school year has started and
she would follow up on this.

d.Discuss Race Film Series

Ms. Curti stated there had been a good turnout for all three movies. Several people
had stated they would like to see more of these types of events. The Library would
be interested in cosponsoring these with the Commission and the Commission could
also look at cosponsoring with the Shoreview Human Rights Commission again and
hosting an event at the new library. She suggested the Commission consider
forming a subcommittee to research topics and possible events.

Commissioner Carey suggested reaching out to the Community Engagement
Commission to see if anyone would be interested in working on the subcommittee.

Commissioner Peterson suggested the Commission table the formation of a
subcommittee until the April meeting because they would have more information on
the combining of the HRC and CEC. If the combining of the Commissions is expected
to be delayed, then they could start a subcommittee in April.

e.Discuss Mental Health Forum

Ms. Curti stated this might be something the Commission would like to table until the
duties and objectives have been defined for the combined Commission.

Commissioner Dailey stated the person that had done the Forum in January on Grey
Matters is the only person at NAMI that does that presentation and she prefers not to
work with the same City within a one-year period. She does offer presentations on
anxiety and substance abuse. She recommended scheduling a presentation on
anxiety for next January, similar to the Grey Matters event. The Commission could
offer other events through NAMI with different speakers.

Chair Groff asked how they could increase participation from residents.
Commissioner Peterson suggested offering the presentation in the evening versus
during the day.

Commissioner Dailey stated the last event had been targeted towards seniors and
most of the advertising had been done in churches and senior living facilities.

Commissioner Slade stated there is a general stigma about mental health and it is a
difficult subject for people to talk about in public. She stated they could target
caregivers and family support systems.
