Youth Commissioner Applicant Discussion
369
370
This item was previously discussed.
371
372
c. Overview of Technology of Participation Method

373
374
Ms. Olson reported after the last couple of Commission meetings and in an attempt to develop a
375
work plan, a facilitated process is being proposed to build a work plan for the Commission
376
through a structured process. She provided a detailed overview of the Technology of
377
Participation (ToP) method
378
every voice, respect diversity of perspectives within a group, and develop a strong consensus for
379
the group. The proposed plan is to begin with the Consensus Workshop at the August
380
Commission meeting and culminate with a joint meeting with the City Council in
381
December/January to kick off 2018 with a new work plan.
382
383
384
discussion, but it does not preclude other agenda items and reports. Since this Commission is
385
charged with making recommendations to the Council about engagement, it may be good for
386
them to evaluate it as they go through it to see if it could work for the City in other areas.
387
388
Commissioner Manke commented the Commission had previously discussed this and agreed it
389
was something they wanted to explore.
390
391
Commissioner Peterson stated the process sounds good, but she wants to make sure there is still
392
time to take care of other business at their meetings.
393
394
Commissioner Carey stated the HRC has priorities that have already been successful, such as the
395
Essay Contest, that they do not want to give up. They have identified several things that are
396
ready to go that have been put on hold. She inquired why they would take six months to figure
397
out what their work plan should be when they can figure it out in one meeting. They can choose
398
from their list what they can handle and focus on that for the next year. She expressed concern
399
that the things they already had as priorities are going to be shelved so that they can go through
400
the ToP process.
401
402
