Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, October 16, 2017
Page 2
Dr. Sicoli responded that throughout each stage since initial discussions began in
2015, there had been community meetings during the criteria and options stages,
and before the School Board vote to proceed on June 27, 2017. Since that deci-
sion to proceed, Dr. Sicoli reported that an additional three of four public meet-
ings had been held, with the remaining meeting scheduled October 30, 2017 at the
Roseville Middle School, with a tour of the facility at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting
to follow at 6:30 p.m. In addition, Dr, Sicoli encouraged taxpayers to submit their
questions and/or comments to the District at any point. Dr. Sicoli clarified that
there are no new buildings proposed, only maintenance and rehabilitation of exist-
ing facilities.
Councilmember McGehee thanked Dr. Sicoli for the transparent process through
the process, opining that it had been well-done and addressed important issues,
agreeing that there was no fluff to the funds being sought with the bond issue.
Having served on the Criteria Committee, Councilmember McGehee further
opined that this had been an impressive process and followed the public com-
ments received to-date on needs for the District; and expressed her hope that resi-
dents would be supportive of this bond referendum to address this important need
for the School District and broader community.
Public Comment
Matt Sundeen 570 Lydia Drive
As part of the broader study, having served on both the Criteria and Options
Committees, Mr. Sundeen spoke in support of the bond referendum. Mr. Sundeen
reviewed some of the public comment received during those meetings, specific to
not splitting up High School students or changing District elementary school
boundaries; and noted that this referendum worked out those preferred community
options and accomplished important things. Mr. Sundeen opined that this vote
would prove to be a milestone moment for the community as well as surrounding
communities served by the District, and noted the importance of this referendum
passing for the benefit of the District and the City of Roseville. Mr. Sundeen not-
ed that there were currently 175 homes for sale within the confines of the School
District, 102 in the City of Roseville and with millennials looking at purchasing
homes, investment in the school district is very attractive to home buyers. Mr.
Sundeen encouraged all taxpayers to support the referendum and get out to vote.
Mayor Roe noted that the Mounds View School District, also serving part of the
City of Roseville, had been invited to tonight's meeting to present their bond ref-
erendum summary, also scheduled this fall, but had been unable to do so tonight,
and would hopefully be able to make their presentation depending on scheduling
availability.
b.
