Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday, November 27, 2017 <br /> Page 25 <br /> Mayor Roe suggested that the narrative include a suggestion to make the language <br /> clearer. <br /> State Building Code Allowing Municipalities to Require Sprinkler Systems in <br /> Multi-Family Occupancy Groups pages 13 — 15) <br /> Mayor Roe spoke in support of this legislation, opining that Roseville still needed <br /> to weigh the safety of tenants, but whatever was passed provided cities some lati- <br /> tude. For the record, Mayor Roe clarified that this was how he envisioned the city <br /> supporting this change in the state building code. <br /> City Manager Trudgeon noted the opposition from various interest groups to this <br /> proposal. <br /> City Operations <br /> Mayor Roe suggested concentrating on items 1, 2 4, and 5 for discussion first, <br /> since "advocating for an increase in transportation funding" and "create presump- <br /> tive coverage for firefighters diagnosed with cancer" were two bigger topics to <br /> discuss. <br /> Reimburse Deputy Registrars for Excess Costs,...(page 16) <br /> Councilmember Laliberte spoke in support of anything possible to get reim- <br /> bursement for the MNLARS program. <br /> Pathways to Policing Program m Expansion(page 17—21) <br /> Councilmember Laliberte noted that the legislation specifically called out Henne- <br /> pin Technical College, and questioned why that was called out, advising that she <br /> was aware of some senators and state representatives who would not vote to sup- <br /> port anything that called out one beneficiary. <br /> Mayor Roe suggested that the policy recommendation support broadening the <br /> program that in turn may find more support. <br /> Improve Absentee Balloting(page 32) <br /> Councilmember Willmus suggested additional conversations with county com- <br /> missioners to get them involved as well; with Mayor Roe also suggesting the <br /> county's election administrator. <br /> City Manager Trudgeon reported that on the staff level, Assistant City Manager <br /> Olson was monitoring that. <br /> Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson reported that in speaking to Ramsey <br /> County's Elections Administrator Joe Mansky, based on his feedback from other <br /> county cities, this was a priority for him. However, Ms. Olson noted that he <br /> needed municipal support to boost his advocacy to the legislature. <br />
