Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, October 15, 2018
Page 11
Mayor Roe stated cities can certainly buy properties at the going rate or the City
can go through processes to remove the properties, such as imminent domain or
whatever may be appropriate. But there are still limitations on having a willing
seller in certain circumstances and having funds available for the City to purchase
the property.
Mr. Trudgeon stated on the hotel licensing, he has learned that the City of
Maplewood licenses their hotels and receives some special agreement with the
County. He is reviewing that as well and will report back to the Council.
Councilmember Laliberte thought when the Council talked about this a year ago,
the Council was curious as to the situation with the City of Waite Park. She won-
dered if staff received information on that.
Mr. Trudgeon stated he has not been able to connect with the City Administrator
in Waite Park but Chief Mathwig has talked to Waite Park Chief Waite Park did
get approval through the Omnibus bill at the end of the Session, so Waite Park is
no longer interested in pursuing anything because it got what it needed.
Councilmember Laliberte stated she would still be very interested in what
prompted the City of Waite Park to pursue something and what was going on in
their city.
Mayor Roe supported also finding out what prompted Maplewood to go through
their route with the County and what Maplewood's heir experience has been.
Mr. Trudgeon stated another item is Amending State Building Code 1306 to Al-
low Municipalities to Require Sprinkler Systems in R-2 (Multi-Family) Occupan-
cy Groups. This is something the Council discussed last year and unless there is a
change of opinion, he thought this should remain on the list.
Mr. Trudgeon indicated another item on the list is to Reimburse Deputy Regis-
trars for excess costs associated with the deployment of the Minnesota Licensing
and Registration System (MNLARS). He stated there were some Legislative so-
lutions, but nothing ever came of this. There is still a lot of support in the Legis-
lature to make some funds available to do this and he thought this was worthwhile
for the City to continue to keep on the list. He hoped it would move forward.
Councilmember Willmus asked if there was a glitch over the weekend with regard
to cameras.
Mr. Trudgeon stated there was not any glitch in Roseville, but thought there was
an issue with the connection of the cameras in a couple of the Minneapolis sites.
He did not hear there was any problems in Roseville.
