Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, October 15, 2018
Page 12
Councilmember Willmus stated he heard there were some problems within Rose-
ville as well.
Councilmember McGehee thought that issue had to do with Real ID and this item
is MNLARS.
Councilmember Laliberte stated the Metro Cities is also going to put this type of
item into their policy in 2018.
Mayor Roe thought staff might want to import that language into Roseville's doc-
ument.
Mr. Trudgeon stated the next item on the City Legislative list is to Expand "Path-
ways to Policing" Program. This is a connection with local community college
and training people to become law enforcement. The City thought it was a great
program but maybe should be expanded to allow for other community colleges to
reap the benefit of the program and help hire some people who have gone through
the program. He thought this was a good program but should be expanded.
Councilmember Laliberte thought there would be support for this at the Legisla-
ture. She did not think the Council talked much about this item last year, but she
heard from a few legislators that the Legislature was trying to move away from
anything that specifically names a particular beneficiary or entity in Statute.
Mayor Roe thought this one might be an item to work on with the League of Min-
nesota Cities and Metro Cities as well to really push for it at the Legislature.
Mr. Trudgeon stated another item is to advocate for an increase in Transportation
Funding. He thought the City was generally supportive of things that provide
more dollars. Another item is to Improve Absentee Balloting. The City has had a
lot of struggles in the 2016 Presidential Election. The upcoming cycle is a little
more organized in the County as far as voting centers, but the City wants contin-
ued improvements and to make it less of a hassle.
Mayor Roe stated one of the things talked about was to be able to have the voter
place their ballet in the tabulator throughout the earlier voting period rather than
just within a restricted time frame.
Mr. Trudgeon stated the next item is more of a general statement. Fund the
DEED Redevelopment Grant Program and the Demolition Loan Program. He ex-
plained those are critical for redevelopment and staff wants to make sure there is
proper funding so those programs do not go away. He noted the City has tapped
into those funds before and still needs them in the future as the City continues to
redevelop.
