Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, October 15,2018
Page 13
Mr. Trudgeon stated the next item is to Create Presumptive Coverage for Fire-
fighters Diagnosed with Cancer. He noted there is information that firefighters
are more susceptible to getting cancer as part of the line of duty. He was not sure
if this item will go anywhere as there are a lot of particular opinions regarding
this. He noted that in the end, this does help City employees.
Councilmember Laliberte thought if this item is going to remain, she thought
dates and certain items needed to be updated and maybe some information added.
Councilmember McGehee thought this was nice for employees but the science
was questionable.
Councilmember Laliberte stated she works in the cancer industry and knows that
other things contribute to risk other than this. But with that being said, there is an
increased risk by being in this field.
Mayor Roe stated the City is not asking to adopt these Legislative priorities at this
point and will come back to the City Council for full consideration.
Mr. Trudgeon stated the last item is regarding improving transparency of infor-
mation property tax notices sent by counties.
Councilmember Willmus thought the property tax notice needed to spell out the
taxing districts.
Councilmember McGehee was not sure how many people in the City actually
know that Roseville has an EDA and HRA, so she wanted to make sure that put-
ting it in the property tax notice is helpful to most people.
Mayor Roe stated this would at least identify that it is a City tax being paid. Right
now, it does not distinguish that.
Councilmember Laliberte thought there would be some ability to reorganize the
order of items so City levies and taxes could be put together on the property tax
notice.
Councilmember McGehee asked if there was any interest in priorities to the items
because in her mind, she has specific priorities. If she were to give the priority
list to a Legislature, she would want the top priorities listed first.
Councilmember Laliberte stated she is working with a health organization right
now on this same type of thing and the group is going to prioritize by certain
items needing action by the Legislature.
