Regular City Council Meeting
Monday,November 5, 2018
Page 12
Mayor Roe thought what was written was a general statement and the challenge
with historic preservation activities is the process of designating, noting the City
does not have anything set up to do that and if the City should have something set
up, then the Council might want to consider that.
Councilmember Etten thought it was an interesting thing to bring up. He noted he
rewrote the last sentence, so it reads "The City will continue to support efforts by
the Historical Society to identify and preserve the history of Roseville," which is
what the City does right now.
Councilmember McGehee thought that sentence was a lot clearer than what is
currently in the Comprehensive Plan.
Councilmember Etten stated the sentence would address the concern that the City
is not really preserving buildings.
Mayor Roe suggested the sentence be submitted to staff for consideration.
Councilmember McGehee stated another question she had was in Chapter 5,
Housing, page 31 where the new things have been added begins with: "the City
would consider..." and then on page 33 the wording changes to "The City would
support", "The City is supportive of...", "The City supports...". She was not sure
she was comfortable with all of those "would supports" versus "would consider"
terms.
Mayor Roe asked from a staff perspective if that is based on actual language in
City policies or is that trying to change up the language.
Ms. Purdue stated staff is trying to change up the language. She thought if the
Council wanted to change these all back to "The City would consider," staff
would be fine with those changes.
Councilmember McGehee stated she would feel more comfortable with that
wording.
Councilmember Etten felt there was a clear difference in page 33 and 34 in that it
is outside programs versus the City's funds or resources. He thought it was a dif-
ferent situation between the pages. He stated he was fine with changing the word-
ing to "considering"but he thought the two were very different in how the City is
affected.
Councilmember Willmus agreed.
