Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />November 14, 2018 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 2 of 10 <br /> <br />47 Commissioner Djevi moved and Commissioner Bolinger seconded a motion to approve the <br />48 October 17, 2018 Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission meeting minutesas <br />49 presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br />50 <br />51 Youth Commissioner Report <br />th <br />52 Youth Commissioner Hansel reported her school ran a mock election on October 30. She <br />53 stated the school is taking on two extra grades of teaching this year and grades 9, 10, and 11 will <br />54 be taught human rights this year. The school will be busy working on creating two extra <br />55 curriculums. <br />56 <br />57 Chair Beltmann asked if there was any idea of how many of the 18-year old’s who were able to <br />58 vote went out to vote. <br />59 <br />60 Youth Commissioner Hansel stated there were a lot of 18-year old’s in school wearing the “I <br />61 Voted” sticker. <br />62 <br />63 Commissioner Bolinger asked if the City will be advertising for youth commissionersbecause <br />64 the Youth Commissioners are both seniors. <br />65 <br />66 Ms. Olson believed that process is during the school year. <br />67 <br />68 Youth Commissioner Hansel stated there is advertising at the end of the school year and <br />69 applications are due at the end of summer and follows the school term. <br />70 <br />71 Commissioner Peterson thought the Commission should start advertising for Youth <br />72 Commissioners now in the schools. <br />73 <br />74 Commissioner Bolinger thought it would be a neat opportunity to have the people come in and <br />75 spend some time with the Commissioners. <br />76 <br />77 Ms. Olson stated she would bring forward a timeline for appointing youth commissionersat the <br />78 December meeting. <br />79 <br />80 New Business <br />81 <br />82 a. Foundational Meeting Overview <br />83 Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson provided a recap of the HRIEC Uniform <br />84 Commission Code, Work Plan schedule and Community Engagement Project <br />85 background for the new Commissioners. <br />86 <br />87 Commissioner Hassan arrived at 6:45 p.m. <br />88 <br />89 Chair Beltmann stated in July, the Commission went to the City Council with the <br />90 draft work plan and the work plan being discussed is based on the Council direction <br /> <br />
