Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,January 28, 2019 <br /> Page 12 <br /> be eight officers hired. He asked how many squad cars and other equipment <br /> would be needed to service that many officers. <br /> Chief Mathwig stated based on the current fleet, which is lean, he anticipated <br /> once the third police officer is hired that another squad car would be needed. In <br /> 2020, with a new Detective, the Department could make do with the equipment <br /> already purchased. He noted the Department aggressively hires from within. <br /> Mayor Roe asked if the City Council needed to take action on any of these items <br /> at this meeting or when would this be coming back to the Council for action. <br /> Mr. Trudgeon stated tonight was to present the item and he expected it would <br /> come back with more detail and a recommendation within a month or two. <br /> Councilmember Etten thought this was an important part of what the City is try- <br /> ing to do and that it was an important priority. <br /> Councilmember Willmus stated with respect to the 2019 budget, he was going to <br /> look pretty favorably on retaining the CSOs as hires. <br /> Councilmember Groff stated he was pleased with the commitment to diversity <br /> and how hard the Chief has worked on that. <br /> Mayor Roe stated he would like to have staff look at the CIP funds in regard to <br /> where it stands today, the projection out twenty years, and what it looks like for <br /> additional purchases of vehicles. He would also like to understand how 2019 fits <br /> into the next couple of stages. <br /> Mayor Roe offered an opportunity for public comment. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Ms. Lauren Peterson, 1021 Roma Avenue <br /> Ms. Peterson stated she would strongly encourage the Council to adopt the Com- <br /> mitment to Diversity. She thought the Roseville community was changing and <br /> needed to look like the community. She would also strongly encourage the Coun- <br /> cil to look at hiring a Mental Health Liaison. She thought there were a number of <br /> calls related to mental health crisis and having a liaison with specific training in <br /> something like that would be important to reducing call time. <br /> Ms. Nancy O'Brien, 2103 Cohansey <br /> Ms. O'Brien stated it is compelling to listen to the presentation the Police De- <br /> partment has made. She indicated she has lived in Roseville for more than thirty <br /> years, loves the community, feels safe, and wants to continue to feel that way. <br /> She stated it is good to hear that the sky is not falling but the City does not want <br />
