Regular City Council Meeting
Monday,January 28,2019
Page 3
Commissioner Djevi stated the he did look at the proposed language and thought
it was a great addition, and he did not see anything negative. He stated it is al-
ways good to acknowledge positive things that have and are being done.
Commissioner Peterson agreed this was a good addition to the proclamation. She
stated the Commission would appreciate having input earlier than later and they
have been working very hard on these proclamations. She noted the January
HRIEC meeting was cancelled. Otherwise, the Commission would have looked
at this addition at that time.
Councilmember Groff asked if either of the Commissioners worked on this proc-
lamation.
Commissioner Djevi indicated he worked on this proclamation.
Mayor Roe stated from the Council's perspective, each Councilmember has a
packet with the proclamation drafts presented in the autumn. He wondered if it
made sense to some feedback from the Council on the drafts as the proclamations
exist without further changes from the Commission or should there be some sort
of process for the Commission to do more work on them and then bring those
back.
Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olsen stated in February, the HRIEC will be re-
viewing the requests of changes that the Council asked for. She was anticipating
the Commission to finish up their work at that time so before formally bringing
the changes to the Council, those changes could be shared with the Council ahead
of a Council meeting for changes, if that is acceptable.
Mayor Roe asked if it could be a two-meeting process for the Council to get the
changes, the ability to weigh in and then the Commission has another chance to
look at those questions from the Council at the HRIEC March meeting before
more proclamations come up.
Ms. Olsen believed Women's History Month will be coming up in March and
might come forward alone. But, after the February HRIEC meeting, staff can
send out all of the changes for.Council review to get feedback.
Councilmember Etten stated he would be in favor of that process.
Roll Call
Ayes: Willmus, Etten, Groff and Roe.
Nays: None.
Mayor Roe read the Black History Month Proclamation.
