Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, February 11, 2019
Page 13
Councilmember Laliberte stated she was supportive as well. She stated she was
okay with the motion as it stands.
Mayor Roe stated the things that were most concerning to him were that some of
the specific language in the Memorandum Attachment D/A, as to the numbers of
the force strength as it sits today because he thought the City wants it to be a flex-
ible document that goes forward. He hoped in the future it will be noticed that to
fulfil the City's commitment to diversity, the City is interested in temporarily au-
thorizing up to two more officers in the force strength beyond what the budgeted
number has been in order to accomplish those goals in the hiring process.
Councilmember Willmus asked if Mayor Roe would like to clean up the language
in the Resolution to reflect that.
Councilmember Etten stated on line 34 of the Memorandum Attachment D, if
"48-50" were replaced with "up to two additional," it would make that bullet
point generic and allow for that flexibility.
Mayor Roe stated line 36 should remove "48" and add "the permanent budgeted
strength level." He asked if the motion maker and seconder of the motion agreea-
ble to the changes.
Councilmembers Groff and Willmus accepted the friendly amendments.
Councilmember Etten asked if line 13 should be changed as well because he did
not like the sentence how it reads. He suggested the sentence be changed to read
"This memorandum describes the process to temporarily fill up to two police of-
ficer positions..."
Councilmembers Groff and Willmus accepted the friendly amendment.
Chief Mathwig indicated he was agreeable to all of the changes made.
Mayor Roe stated he would also change the word "requested" on line 34 to "au-
thorized" and remove the words "authorized level" after flexible to read "A flexi-
ble number of up to two additional police officers is authorized in order to further
the commitment to diversity".
Councilmembers Groff and Willmus agreed to the final changes.
Roll Call
Ayes: Laliberte, Etten, Willmus, Groff and Roe.
Nays: None
