Regular City Council Meeting Monday, April 15,2019 Page 2 Ms. Oodi Perrell, Owner of Mini-Apple International Montessori School Ms. Perrell stated her business has been in Roseville for the past twenty-five years and has not been a problem to the City. She noted the business has actually brought people into the City, over a hundred families per day. She stated she has come in to discuss her frustration over the safety of the children. She stated she sent a letter to the City regard- ing her issue and hoped everyone had a chance to read it. She stated the school tries to do its part in keeping the area clean and organized but she did not feel that either side of her neighbors were doing that and on top of that, she also feels that there are all sorts of things happening behind the building and on the side of the building. She has heard there has been rape, murder, theft, violence. She stated that parents are questioning the safety of their children and this is a big concern for her. She stated she has two other locations and has done her part by putting up cameras and security systems, but it is not enough. It has gotten to the point where the children cannot go outside of the building for walks or fieldtrips. Even to go in the playground is pretty scary because she never knows when someone will come around and do something. There is always stuff thrown around in the parking lot and the preschoolers go out and pick up the garbage. Ms. Perrell stated her concern is that the buildings are not even maintained, and she won- dered how the City can help to keep the children safe. How can the City help to keep the area nice and clean and presentable in order to invite new families to come in. Mayor Roe noted staff has scheduled a meeting with Ms. Perrell this week. Ms. Perrell indicated the meeting is Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Mayor Roe thought that was a good step to understand what the City can be doing to help out and what the City is already doing. He thought this was a good first step so the City can figure out what needs to be focused on and how to help Ms. Perrell. He thought the best thing to do is to communicate with each other. Ms. Perrell agreed and asked if the Police can monitor the area often as well. 5. Recognitions, Donations, and Communications a. Introduction of Deputy City Clerk—Katie Bruno Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson introduced Katie Bruno and reviewed her history and experience. Ms. Bruno thanked the City Council and noted she was very happy to be with the City of Roseville. She stated she has been in her position at the City for approxi- mately two weeks and has found everyone to be very helpful and welcoming. The City Council welcomed Ms. Bruno. b. Receive Report on City Manager Performance Evaluation
