Regular City Council Meeting Monday, May 6, 2019 Page 19 Councilmember Etten thought a nice group had applied but Mr. Lee was very thorough, taking notes, and he thought Mr. Lee would be good at providing con- text to the numbers and be the person to help break that line between professional accountants and the public. He thought Dan Sagaser's background as a business analyst is exactly the piece he could provide on the Commission. He was a good thinker on policy and process. Councilmember Groff concurred on those thoughts and liked Mr. Lee's detailed responses during the interview and Mr. Lee was well spoken. He thought on his feet, which a Commissioner needs to be able to do. He thought Mr. Sagaser would be an important addition to the Commission. Councilmember Laliberte agreed with the suggestion of Mr. Lee. She was going to make a pitch for Mr. Harris who was not able to attend and be interviewed in person that night. She took the step to interview him by phone as best she could, and was very impressed by him. She stated Mr. Harris was not able to attend that night for the interview because he serves on the Board for the Ramsey County Li- brary, is already doing great service to the community, and has a strong back- ground in finance. She thought he was very sharp in the conversation. Mayor Roe stated the applicants to be appointed were in his top three and he was appreciative of their good service on the Commission and supported the motion. Roll Call Ayes: Etten, Willmus, Laliberte, Groff and Roe. Nays: None. Councilmember Willmus suggested the City advertise again, along with the appli- cants who were part of this pool for the third opening. Councilmember Laliberte stated she would like others to talk to Mr. Harris and did not know what the City would yield by posting it again. But she thought that was a good part of the process rather than making a decision at this time. Councilmember Etten stated he would be prepared to support Mr. Harris, not by who he is or is not, but his application was not very complete and did not have a good sense of where Mr. Harris is at so he would like to interview him. Councilmember Groff stated he would be willing to call Mr. Harris and talk to him but did have a concern when someone does not follow City procedure this early on and does not come to the interview because a Commission is a lot of time that needs to be committed. He would want to be sure that Mr. Harris would be able to commit to the time.
