Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, May 6, 2019
Page 20
Councilmember Etten stated he did not want to call Mr. Harris out for not being at
the interview and as Councilmember Laliberte pointed out, Mr. Harris was out
serving the community.
Mayor Roe thought it made sense to reopen it but was not opposed to taking from
the pool of applicants the City already had. He stated historically, the Finance
Commission has had one female member and currently has none. He was pre-
pared to appoint Ms. Jebens-Singh for that reason, while noting that she is as
qualified as the others.
Willmus moved, Etten seconded to re-advertise for the one remaining Finance
Commission vacancy and hold the existing applications.
Roll Call
Ayes: Etten, Willmus, Laliberte, Groff and Roe.
Nays: None.
g. Discuss Imagine Roseville
City Manager Trudgeon briefly highlighted this item as detailed in the RCA and
related attachments dated May 6, 2019.
Mayor Roe indicated this was something that grew organically as a result of some
events happening and did not go through a Council vetting of the process. He
noted a number of meetings were held and this is an opportunity to check-in and
see if this was something the City wanted to continue the way it is. He stated this
is open ended.
Mayor Roe thought these are valuable discussions to have in the community on
topics related to how we all live together as a variety of different people with a
variety of different backgrounds, cultures. The Council knows the community is
getting more diverse in a number of different ways, and the City should be mind-
ful going forward as a community how we build into our system some ways to
talk about whatever issues might be out there.
Councilmember Groff asked if it would be possible to reach out to the participants
the City has had in the past. Because it was kind of a community thing in the first
place, it would be sort of an outreach process to see if there are any things the par-
ticipants would like the City to do. He thought that since it grew organically, it
would be a better way to start than for the Council to decide what to talk about.
Mayor Roe asked if Councilmember Groff was talking about the people who at-
tended the events or the group behind it.
Councilmember Groff thought there were many people involved in the events, but
he thought that might be a place to start.
