Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, May 13,2019
Page 13
Councilmember Etten stated the Mayor's idea would require purchasing of addi-
tional property on the north side of Woodhill and the closing of a City park.
Mayor Roe indicated that was correct. He thought an offsite location probably
requires purchasing a property as well.
Councilmember Etten asked where the license center would be relocated to.
Mayor Roe thought a staged process would need to be developed where the City
figures out if the license center could temporarily continue in the strip center site.
He said the City might want to try to operate that as long as possible through a
process and maybe that becomes more the additional yard space and done at a lat-
er stage of construction. He thought there were a lot of possibilities and the City
needed to stage things. He thought it seemed logical if the City wanted to keep
everything consolidated on the same general footprint, swapping sites has poten-
tially some advantage.
Councilmember Etten stated he would agree that having it adjacent to the current
location, a relatively central location, is a great way to operate the City. Thinking
about something less grand, thinking about the reconfiguration of parking lot was
brought up by someone in the community already, and that reconfiguration actual-
ly limits some of the potential smaller changes to gain some access he assumed.
Mr. Culver indicated that was true and there are other related challenges and are
never insurmountable with money. He reviewed the possible reconfiguration of
the parking lot and entrance along with a possible building expansion and having
to move the entrance again if there was an expansion. In order to do that the two
storm water basins would need to be moved as well so there are some other chal-
lenges related to expanding the building in the corner. One of the alternatives was
to build a small extension for additional vehicle storage. He stated it would limit
options with moving the entrance further north.
Councilmember Etten questioned the current Lexington Shops building, is there a
reason the City wouldn't want to take the end off the current building to the north
and build there; leaving the other pieces there for continued revenue as the City
makes other decisions.
Mr. Trudgeon replied the City could add onto that building which would be an
additional cost and then long term if that whole structure is not in the optimal
space for the need, the suggestion staff had was to move it into the southeast cor-
ner. This would impact some things as well and maybe not what staff wants to do.
The City would be investing in something that may need to be torn down at some
point. He stated that is staff's problem and staff does not know where to start.
