ATTACHMENT C <br />1484 Minnesota State Fire Code. <br />1485 3. Maintenance.The required fire-resistance rating of fire-resistance-rated construction, <br />1486 including walls, firestops, shaft enclosures, partitions, smoke barriers, floors, fire- <br />1487 resistive coatings and sprayed fire-resistant materials applied to structural members <br />1488 and joint systems, shall be maintained. Such elements shall be visually inspected <br />1489 annually by the owner and repaired, restored or replaced where damaged, altered, <br />1490 breached or penetrated. Records of inspections and repairs shall be maintained. Where <br />1491 concealed, such elements shall not be required to be visually inspected by the owner <br />1492 unless the concealed space is accessible by the removal or movement of a panel, <br />1493 access door, ceiling tile or entry to the space. Openings made therein for the passage <br />1494 of pipes, electrical conduit, wires, ducts, air transfer and any other reason shall be <br />1495 protected with approved methods capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire. <br />1496 Openings through fire-resistance-rated assemblies shall be protected by self-or <br />1497 automatic-closing doors of approved construction meeting the fire protection <br />1498 requirements for the assembly. <br />1499 a. Fire blocking and draft stopping. Required fire blocking and draft stopping in <br />1500 combustible concealed spaces shall be maintained to provide continuity and <br />1501 integrity of the construction. <br />1502 b. Smoke barriers and smoke partitions. Required smoke barriers and <br />1503 smoke partitions shall be maintained to prevent the passage of smoke. <br />1504 Openings protected with approved smoke barrier doors or smoke dampers shall <br />1505 be maintained in accordance with NFPA 105. <br />1506 c. Fire walls, fire barriers, and fire partitions. Required fire walls, fire barriers <br />1507 and fire partitions shall be maintained to prevent the passage of fire. Openings <br />1508 protected with approved doors or fire dampers shall be maintained in <br />1509 accordance with NFPA 80. <br />1510 4. Opening protectives. Opening protectives shall be maintained in an operative <br />1511 condition in accordance with NFPA 80. The application of field-applied labels <br />1512 associated with the maintenance of opening protectives shall follow the requirements <br />1513 of the approved third-party certification organization accredited for listing the <br />1514 opening protective. Fire doors and smoke barrier doors shall not be blocked or <br />1515 obstructed, or otherwise made inoperable. Fusible links shall be replaced whenever <br />1516 fused or damaged. Fire door assemblies shall not be modified. Opening protectives. <br />1517 Required opening protectives shall be maintained in an operative condition. All fire <br />1518 and smokestop doors shall be maintained in operable condition. Fire doors and smoke <br />1519 barrier doors shall not be blocked or obstructed or otherwise made inoperable. <br />1520 a. Signs. Where required by the code official, a sign shall be permanently <br />1521 displayed on or near each fire door in letters not less than 1 inch (25 mm) high <br />1522 to read as follows: <br />1523 a.1. For doors designed to be kept normally open: FIRE DOOR - DO <br />1524 NOT BLOCK. <br />1525 a.2. For doors designed to be kept normally closed: FIRE DOOR - <br />1526 KEEP CLOSED. <br />1527 b. Hold-open devices and closers. Hold-open devices and automatic door closers <br />1528 shall be maintained.
