Eureka Recycling AWAIR Goals for 2021
The AWAIR Act requires employers to conduct and document a review of the workplace accident and
injury reduction program at least annually, and document how objectives set forth in the program are
met. This checklist serves as a way to track our safety objectives for this year and document the
accomplishments: In addition to the overall safety objectives covered in our Safety Policy we have set
the following safety goals for the current year:
❑ Reduce occurrence of injuries through proactive safety measures and hold to zero lost time
injuries in 2021.
❑ Create a new work injury acknowledgement that uses language such as: "I understand that I am
expected to..." and have a list of all of our most important expectations, such as reporting
change in conditions, intent to go to a clinic after hours, and our return -to -work expectations.
❑ The Safety Committee/HR will focus on the areas where we have seen the most injuries in the
past 3 years by analyzing the impacts based on data and our systems for potential procedural
changes (specifically, pokes, slips and falls, strains).
❑ Refine and implement more fully our plan for dealing with ice in the parking lot.
❑ Improve parking lot safety for foot traffic by analyzing potential injuries and accidents.
Notes:
❑ Increase engagement around safety with all employees with intentional focus on engagement
with Spanish-speaking employees.
❑ Provide consistent communication to all employees about our progress in safety and injury
reduction. Do a campaign to share previous data using our impact analysis data.
❑ Post current Safety Committee Meeting Minutes on the MRF, Mod, and Office Bulletin Boards
and send by email to office employees. Post just the summary (abbreviated version) in Spanish.
❑ Provide verbal summaries to Spanish-speaking employees during employee meetings about:
what the safety committee is working on and review how each incident, accident, injury, and
near miss is reviewed.
Notes:
❑ Complete workplace safety walkthroughs on a scheduled basis and define corrective action in
Safety Committee.
❑ Review monthly walk-throughs. Put on the safety committee agenda so that we are following
through on what's on the sheet.
❑ Create safety inspection checklists for other areas —maintenance shop and warehouse.
❑ Cross -train more employees to be able to do safety walkthroughs, especially in the new areas.
Notes:
