Continued Page 2.

383

(In part.) The attention of the Council is CÐlled t.e th9 r011.cwlng fDetS:

Report on
Dunlap
VacatinG--

1. Dunlap St. lî8S been in exÌf;tence for many years. It iE <"n estahllf'hed
ptreet as t.c grade and dr.'\:inage. The c1riving surface of the street has
been oil treated long enoue;h to become well stabilized and ver~/ ~atis-
fHctory with B. m5r1.IJ1um amount of maintenan~e. It is 60 f'eet. wide.

2. In order to ser'.'f' tl-¡c residents imrnediatcJy north of that portion which
would be affected, it would be necessary to pr()Vj.de a roadway to Lox-
ington Ave. over Dinrme St.

3. I ha'¡e estimated the cost of constructing, graveling and stabilizing
Dionne St. between Dunlap St.. and Lexington Ave. ;:¡t :tt.Looo.oo.

ll. Our highway department and all other highway departrnent~: are attempting
to elimi'1ate as many entré"nces to heavy traffic ro3.~s RS possible. In
this con'1~ction, it is certainly reasonable to limit the entrances to
Larpenteur Ave. in a way which would permit the use of Fernwood only
between Harnline and Lexington. It is to bs remsmbered that Lexington
Ave. will revert to the status of a County Road when the new No. 10 is
built and, although the traffic will be heavy, it will not, in my
opinion, compare with the anticipated traffic on Larpenteur Ave.

5. The closing of a portion of Dunlap St. loaving a 20 foot opening to be
used as an emergency entrance woul¿ create a very bad maintenance pro-
blem and also a probable policing problem for the village. It would
also have the effect of having a 20 foot alley openeò on Larpenteur Ave.
For these reasons, it might be better to consider closing that portion
of Dunlap St. lying south of the south line of Dionne St. completely.

6. If the street is closed cor~letely, it would be necessary to construct
and surface Dionne St. between Fernwood and Dunlap. I have estimated
the cost of this construction at $2250.00.

7. My recommendation based upon the above facts woulè be that the Council
consider closing of this street between Larpenteur Ave. and the most
southerly boundary line of Dionne St. after developers have presented
their pla.n of development and a guarantee that Dionne St. will be
opened where necessary and completely constructed by them.

Mr. Carley explained the map to representatives of the citizens of
that area.

Mr. Krannak said this land was all zoned commercial, and the pro-
posed plan would take some of his parking lot from him and a 60 foot strip
for a road. It was pointed out by Mr. Benson, however, that Krannak and
Margolis would gain the 40 feet from the vacating of Dunlap St.

Mr. Carley pointed out that his recommendation is based on the idea
that Larpenteur is going to be widened to a 60 ft. pavement, and will
have a greatly increased amount of traffic. The new No. 10 highway being
constructed will take Lexington off the State status and put it back to
County status. Also, that the cost of completing and opening Dionne St.
must be guaranteed by the àevelopers.
